Cagwait White Beach | Surigao's Little Waikiki

We love to promote and venture out to places that are still in the process of gaining traction to be a tourist destination. Known to few and unseen, Cagwait is dubbed by some travelers as "The Little Waikiki of Surigao del Sur". To attest this, we traveled 345 kms by car from Davao City to Tandag with my hubby and his dad ( Papa Tony) . The latter is also a traveler by heart who loves to go to places and take random photos of  landscapes, macro stuff and flowers.




We stop and had a quick snack just by the road in the bucolic province of Agusan where farms are still common.

Cagwait Beach

After 6 hours on the road we finally made it.We checked inn at a nearby resort for Php 1,200 per night. Quite unlucky, we later find out that Spacebar Beach Resort is much better because they have a pool and a giant slide.

The curve shore of the beach that stretches more than a kilometer is quite similar to the famous "Waikiki beach" in Hawaii. The sand is not that white as expected but fine. 

I took a quick swim and I wasn't disappointed. The water is crystal clean not that salty and calm. 

We ordered some watermelons, spicy crabs and pork for tonight's dinner. The food was great and not that expensive.

 

The next day, we prep our things and head to our next destination  The Enchanted river in Hinatuan and the Majestic Falls of Bislig.Cagwait is an amazing place but the local government still have to do major repairs on roads and built more infrastructure projects to gain more tourist activity.


Getting Here


From Surigao City

• Take a van to Cantilan then Cantilan to Tandag. Take a jeepney from Tandag to Cagwait then finally Habal Habal ride to Cagwait Beach.

 From Davao City

• Take a bus from the overland terminal to Tandag.Take a jeepney from Tandag to Cagwait then finally Habal Habal ride to Cagwait Beach. 

Tuklasera Tips

• There are few resorts along the shore but we find Spacebar resort is much better.Standard room starts at Php 690 - 3000. A fee for just Php 100.00 to use the pool and the slide. Contact No. 0920 343 9000
• A must try here is the Spicy crabs.Php 300-800.
• Cheaper alternative than Spacebar is the municipality owned Cagwait White Beach Resort. Room rates start at Php 700 - Php 1,700. Contact 0949 848 6178.
