Paeapak is an old faith healing ritual where a lay minister rubs all parts of a devotee's body with a miraculous Señor Sto. Niño de Kalibo image. It attracts thousands of devotees worldwide for it is believed to heal body and soul. The day we arrived at Kalibo, my hubby had a problem with his left eye about a transparent orb appearing every time he blinks but he kept it for himself. After the street dancing we went back to our hotel and after a while my hubby left to take more pictures. He said that he saw this ritual inside the premises of John the Baptist Cathedral. He gave a small amount as a donation and the lay minister started to rub Sto. Niños image to his body and head. The day after, he revealed it to me about his eye problems and he told me that he tried the ritual Paeapak at the cathedral and his eye problems disappeared gradually. Miracles do happen!.
Tuklasera Tips
• Be sure to book your hotel a month before the festival and expect to pay 3x more than the regular price of your stay. We stayed at Asia Novotel and payed P3,200 for a family room per day during our stay. The price is triple than the standard rates.
• Check http://www.kaliboatiatihan.ph/ for routes and updated schedule of the festival.
• All competing tribes will be seen on the streets surrounding Kalibo. You can even drink and dance with them.
