Backpacking Adventure to Batad Rice Terraces

Right after we reserved and purchased our return bus ticket, we asked Dandy if we can ride the jeepney the “Banaue style". He was unsure of the idea knowing it would be our first time. He said "okey!" provided he will be with us on the roof, some called it "top load ride". It was really fun, one of our most treasured experience.

Feet lock and hold on tight

After taking this shot, the road slowly got ugly and uglier with deep craters and rocks. We decided to end our “The Banaue Style" adventure.

The famous hanging house

This house was featured in Readers Digest Asia last year. We went inside and found out that it's a souvenir store. As we stepped inside, we can hear the squeaking of the floor made by wooden planks. “Pretty scary!”.

Batad Saddle

Thank God! our ride is still intact considering the grueling uphill ride to the saddle. We rented wooden poles for P10.00 to assist us in our hike. From the saddle you have to hike for an hour to reach Batad Rice Terraces.

Batad Tourist Center

Unesco World Heritage Site Batad Rice Terraces

Truly a  surreal landscape. The Batad Rice Terraces was declared a World Heritage Site in 1995 but climate change and natural calamities have placed the rice terraces in danger. Last November 26 the upper part of the rice terraces was damage due to the recent typhoons. See story here.
